All-new Ford Explorer Wants You to Say Goodbye to Flat Tires

2019 Ford Explorer in the Mud

Getting a flat tire is never convenient. That is why Ford has partnered with Michelin® to equip the all-new Ford Explorer with available Selfseal® tires. These proprietary tires will come with a unique rubber sealant that will be able to fill about 90% of tread punctures up to a quarter-inch in diameter.

These tires will come standard on the Explorer Platinum and Explorer Limited Hybrid four-wheel-drive models and will be available on Explorer Limited two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models.

“The all-new Explorer is designed to help our customers feel unstoppable and worry-free,” said Craig Patterson, Explorer marketing manager. “The availability of these new Michelin® Selfseal® tires is another great example of that.”

With these tires, they slow the loss of air pressure with a puncture to less than 15 pounds per square inch per week. This could give you time to finish your family vacation or at least make it to your preferred tire store to buy a replacement. For even more security, all Explorer models come standard with a spare tire.

The sealant inside the Selfseal® tires surrounds any puncturing object to seal the hole. If the object falls out, the sealant should fill the tread puncture to slow air loss.

If you do need to switch out damaged tires for new ones, we here at Westland Ford are happy to help.
