Just when you thought you had seen it all, Ford announces a major breakthrough in the automotive world. The long-awaited all-electric Mustang-inspired SUV is finally ready for the world to see.
According to the Blue Oval, this SUV, whose design is heavily influenced by the Mustang pony car and which will run 100 percent on electric power, will be unveiled on Nov. 17. This is Ford’s first mass-market electric vehicle and has been codenamed Mach 1; it was first teased during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit back in January of 2018.
So, what do we know about this electric Ford SUV inspired by the Mustang? Not much, though Ford has dropped some hints here and there. So far, we know that:
- The SUV’s all-electric range will exceed 300 miles.
- Lincoln will borrow this SUV’s platform for its own model, likely a luxury electric SUV.
- Ford has secured partnerships with several companies to grant drivers access to more than 12,000 charging stations across the country, including several 150 kW DC fast chargers.
- Though it was unveiled with the temporary name of “Mach 1,” Ford has filed a trademark for the name “Mach E.” This could very well be the SUV’s new name.
